When Alpha Preparatory School opened its doors in 1895, the world was a very different place. We have often spoken to the children attending Alpha to place themselves in the mind-set of a young Victorian child, to consider just how different life in 2025 actually is. Yes, we still teach the fundamentals of the three ‘Rs’ of reading, writing and arithmetic (without the Victorian abacuses of course) but we now have laptops, ipads, interactive whiteboards, electricity throughout and heating without open fires! No, we do not have birch wood canes or chalk boards and easels or slate on which the children would write. What has carried on consistently, however, since the school was founded 130 years ago is that we still hold our school rule, which is to ‘Be kind!’ close to all that we do at Alpha.

A Year 6 pupil has stated, “Innovative ideas are created by the staff and our curriculum ignites a hunger for learning, and the potential to achieve. Kindness pervades the school, giving the pupils both the reason and power to show compassion.”

Academic Enhancement Coordinator (SENDCO)

Alpha Preparatory School is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and passionate Academic Enhancement Coordinator (SENDCO). This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and organised individual to play a major role as an inspirational educator coordinating the SEND Department from EYFS to Year 6 in a very friendly, happy and successful small school community. At Alpha, our SEND Department is referred to as our Academic Enhancement Department.

The successful candidate will also join the school’s Senior Leadership Team.

Alpha Preparatory School is seeking a motivated, inspirational and engaging Academic Enhancement Coordinator (SENDCO) to join this happy and friendly community.

This is an exciting opportunity to teach happy and talented children who are extremely keen to learn. The successful candidate will also be expected to be involved in the wider life of the school.

A competitive salary will be offered based on experience. The successful candidate will commence in September 2026.

KS1 Teacher

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, talented and ambitious individual to play a major role as an inspirational educator at Alpha Preparatory School. We seek an individual who will be teaching happy children, who are extremely keen to learn.  The successful candidate will be a Form Teacher in KS1 and also have an opportunity to teach across the school if they so wish to do so. The successful candidate will also be expected to be involved in the wider life of the school in a very friendly, happy and successful small school community.

A competitive salary will be offered based on experience. Alpha is a member of the Teachers' Pension Scheme. The successful candidate will commence in September 2026.
